X-Men's Giant Six-Player Cabinet Was an Arcade Marvel

By Dr. Eleanor Vance | Published on January 01, 0001

While many arcade games can accommodate two players, and ufa888 some even four, there aren’t many that can crowd six ufa888 around a single cabinet like the incredible X-Men arcade game could. Released in 1992, and developed by riches777 Konami, the game came out at the height of the studio’s arcade power, during which g2g1bet similar side-scrolling games (all based on licensed properties) like The Simpsons and TMNT took the world by storm. What made X-Men so special wasn’t the game so much as the way the game was presented. Unlike TMNT and The Simpsons, which supported four players, X-Men allowed for six people to play together on the one machine, a move that took some fancy engineering.cnx.cmd.push(function(){cnx({"playerId":"e3616d04-4972-4839-a63a-c6975e2e9731","settings":{"advertising":{"macros":{"AD_UNIT":"/23178111854/od.kotaku.com/article","CHILD_UNIT":"article","POST_ID":"5923815","POST_TYPE":"post","CHANNEL":"culture","SECTION":"total-recall","SUBSECTION":"","CATEGORIES":"total-recall","TAGS":"","NOP":"0"},"timeBeforeFirstAd":0}}}).render("cnx-player-main")}); Not only did the game require an extra-large cabinet, so as to fit six control layouts on the one board, but it also used two CRT monitors instead of the usual one, so that there was enough screen real estate for all six players to see what was going riches777 on. Rather than being slung up g2g1bet next to each other, which would be a strain on the frame, the two screens were arrayed atop each other, the top one appearing normally, the other one hidden below and reflecting its display via a mirror to give a widescreen effect. You can take a look at one such example of the monstrosity, obtained by SuperGunGuru for a handy $175, below. Re: Obtained an X-Men 6 Player cab! [Arcade Controls, thanks Shannon!]

Sometimes I wish there were more ways to earn rewards through loyalty programs or frequent player bonuses. Adding seasonal events or special challenges could enhance the excitement even further. The payout process is generally smooth and reliable, though occasionally it takes longer than expected. Overall, I feel confident that my winnings are safe and will be credited properly.
